Liverpool Boat Show in prospect for 2011

A new international boat show to be held in Liverpool in 2011 is being promoted by the Liverpool City Council and a number of regional agencies. European funding to hold such an event has been secured and the proposed event is being supported by the Northwest Development Agency, the Mersey Partnership and the new Liverpool Waterfront Partnership. It is planned to hold the event between April 29 and May 8, 2011 and it would be located around the Albert Dock, Salthouse and Canning which is in the centre of the city and a tourist area including local maritime history.

The chairman of the event steering committee will be Sir Robin Knox-Johnson. The show is being organised by Marine Industry Events Ltd, which also managed the British International Motor Show. Knox-Johnson told the local Liverpool Echo newspaper: "I have had the pleasure of experiencing Liverpool's sheer love of yachts and all things connected to the sea through my association with the Clipper Round The World yacht race, the Tall Ships event and Liverpool's Year Of The Sea."

He described the site for the show as "magnificent surroundings" and "one of the most architecturally stunning waterfronts in the world." A preview event for the show is planned to be held in Liverpool on December 3.
