    Default Zapcat National Championship 2008

Pegasus Vortex Racing are raring to go for the start of the Zapcat National Championship 2008 this weekend in Stokes Bay.

This weekend will see approximately 30 Zapcat racing teams head to the South coast for the start of the Zapcat National Championship 2008. The 14 round battle will commence this Saturday 17th May at Stokes Bay in Gosport. Stokes Bay a popular location for Zapcat racing due to it’s steep sloping waters, and unpredictable Solent swells, will see the Southampton based team mount a strong start to their third year of racing together.

Amongst the teams attending will be Rookie Champions in 2006, and 2007 National Champions and Zapcat Kings of Surf Pegasus Vortex racing who will be hoping to get the season off to a superb start in the inaugural round of the 2008 campaign. Pilot Mick Pritchard, manager of the Hire Station Southampton, and Co-pilot Baz Minns a printer for Newsquest Southampton can’t wait for the racing to begin, And with new Sponsors Predator Technology (Helmet Cameras) and Skins™ BioAcceleration Technology™ performance wear added to their campaign partners they’ll be looking to make a great impact on the season early on.

Pilot Mick commented on the Weekends racing ahead “Stokes bay is always an interesting location to race being part of the Solent you never know what conditions to expect. It could be flat calm but usually there’s a great swell that makes racing conditions interesting! And with over 10 new rookie teams this year we’re guaranteed a couple of flips!”

Organisers are still to confirm two events of the 7 Grand Prix Season, which will again feature 4 rounds hosted at the spiritual home of Zapcat Racing Watergate Bay in Newquay over the course of 2 Grand Prix weekends. In addition they will also return to the ever popular racing location of Bournemouth beach which provides perfect close up action of the racing from it’s glorious golden beaches and pier as they race within 10 metres of the shore.

Co-pilot Baz Minns of Bournemouth is looking forward to the season ahead “Watergate Bay and Winning the championship seems so long ago now, Heading to Watergate Bay for the second event this year in June should be interesting as it usually only features in the latter part of the season.” Whilst asked what the team’s expectations were he modestly added “To win of course! We have a fantastic track record and especially with two of the 7 locations being Watergate and the others confirmed as Bournemouth and Stokes Bay – these are our territory. Although you never now what the conditions will be like on the day we are used to the trends of the water and what we can expect with the weather at these venues”
